Healthiest Employer Finalist
Cornerstone Insurance Group
The Cornerstone Insurance Group has a long history of promoting health education and wellness activities among its employees.
The Creve Coeur-based employee benefits and risk-management consulting firm offers employees incentives and challenges through its “Live Well, Work Well” campaign, overseen by a full-time director of wellness, Gina Juenger, who has a master’s in nutrition and a bachelor’s in exercise physiology.
Much of Cornerstone’s wellness program is based on a points-and-rewards system. After earning a certain number of points and completing “core” wellness activities – such as getting a biometric screening and a dental check-up – employees can get discounts on their health insurance premiums: a $60 monthly reduction for employees reaching the gold level and a $30 monthly reduction for reaching the silver level, according to Gina Juenger, Cornerstone’s director of wellness.
Employees can earn points by participating in the company’s quarterly health initiatives, such as community fitness events, wellness challenges and “lunch and learn” presentations, with experts teaching employees about such topics as stress-reduction and self-defense.
New this year is the company’s “corner to corner” walking competition: Teams of five to six employees are walking, virtually, from one corner of the U.S. to the other, using pedometers that can hook up to computers, allowing participants to see their progress on an on-screen map.
Also new this year was a weight-loss challenge in which 37 of the company’s 60 employees participated. At the outset, all participants put $10 into a pot. The top winner, who lost 40-plus pounds in 12 weeks, received $370, plus an iPad Mini, donated by the company.
