On Oct. 7, 2014, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued a new final rule to increase the minimum wage rate for certain federal contract workers. The proposed rule is the DOL’s implementation of Executive Order 13658, issued on Feb. 12, 2014, mandating an increase in the minimum wage rate for federal contractors.
The final rule raises the minimum wage rate for affected workers to $10.10 per hour, beginning Jan. 1, 2015, and authorizes the DOL to make annual adjustments to this minimum wage rate, beginning on Jan. 1, 2016. The DOL estimates that about 200,000 workers will be affected by this rule.
